University of Maryland Women’s Lacrosse

NFD worked closely with the project Architect, Assistant Athletic Director, and furniture vendor to make selections for the newly expanded and renovated 14,000 SF, 2-story complex, serving the Women’s Field Hockey and Lacrosse teams. Project scope included meeting with college stakeholders to determine all furniture requirements, coordinating furniture and fabric selections with the furniture vendor, and ensuring all choices would withstand the tough, everyday use of college athletes. NFD provided furniture selections for Coaches’ Rooms, Team Rooms, general offices, Head Coach offices, Second Floor Lobby, and conference room areas. Various use-types were called for such as lounge furniture, training tables, conference seating, and office furniture. Branding was an important element in the furniture design and selections, reflecting pride in the UMCP history and winning traditions. Coaches Rooms were designed to impress and to meet with prospective athletes in a comfortable, relaxed setting. Both Field Hockey and Lacrosse Team Rooms provided flexible design so that players could lounge on a large sectional sofa or ottomans, do homework at bar height tables, or gather as a team to watch game highlights. Head Coach offices included executive desks with wardrobes, lounge seating, and conference table areas. The Assistant Coaches office consisted of desks with wardrobes, guest chairs, and a bookcase. All the furniture, upholstery fabrics, and finishes were an important component to the general design of the space, accentuating and affirming the University of Maryland brand and project mission.
