NFD has served as interior designer for Ellin & Tucker’s office renovation/relocation projects over the past 30 years, including their latest 31,776 square foot planned space. NFD was tasked with incorporating features to improve the work environment for the employees’ advantage. Access to daylight for all was critical, so minimal offices were placed on the window line. Glazing was placed in the walls of the perimeter offices to further enhance daylight availability and to take advantage of the beautiful harbor views. Layout of the space was planned to encourage collaboration and a team environment, while several informal, break-out areas were incorporated allowing for down-time and creativity. Other areas integrated into the design were study zones, a nursing room for moms, and a “Starbucks-like” coffee area. The entertainment area, featuring a bar space with high top tables, opens into the fun zone which included a pool table, large screen TV, video games, kitchen, putting green, and an outside patio. A video room for recording videos to educate clients and highlight the firm, doubles as an area for collaboration and video conferencing. A monumental stair creates architectural interest while connecting the two floors of the suite and encourages exercise. Sustainability, an important component of the design concept, was incorporated by selecting low VOC paint, recycled carpet content, energy star equipment and LED light fixtures. Bright, sophisticated and enriching – the new space promotes mental and physical health while stimulating the senses and truly creating a space that affirms employees, and clients, are valued. NFD provided space planning, design development, finish selections and specifications, furniture selections, construction documentation and millwork details, construction administration and artwork implementation.
“Though the age, architecture and infrastructure of the building were challenges to the design of the project, the finished product is exactly what we sought. We are truly proud of our space, which is employee centered, fun, energetic, and state of the art, with breathtaking views and many features not typically seen in a professional office environment. Throughout the entire process, NFD provided exceptional direction, design and assistance. Their team coordinated with engineers, sub consultants and vendors and maintained a consistent, clear line of communication. They were always cognizant of our goal to provide the best work environment for our employees and offered creative solutions for lead-time and architectural constraints to meet our project’s deadline.”
